Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an In Lab Study and a Home Sleep Apnea Test?
A polysomnography (sleep study) is performed in a sleep lab where a technician administers the test using specialized equipment to record your data overnight. This type of study is more in-depth as it is a 16 channel, fully attended study monitoring levels of drowsiness, eye movements, heart rhythm, respiration, blood oxygen levels, pulse, limb movements, respiratory effort and snoring.

A Home Sleep Test is a sleep study performed in the comfort and convenience of your home. Using a portable monitor, you are able to self-administer the home sleep study. SleepOne uses an eight channel unit which records respiratory effort, body position, airflow, snoring, heart rate, pulse oximetry, and actigraphy. This type of test is effective in diagnosing Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

Are your services covered by insurance?
Most insurance plans do provide coverage for the evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Please call our office and one of our representatives will be happy to verify your insurance plan coverage.

As a courtesy, we will file the insurance claims for you. Once your insurance has settled a claim, we will bill you for any deductible and/or co-insurance amounts your insurance company has determined are your responsibility according to your particular plan.

Can I take my medications on the day of my sleep test?
Yes, please take all your medications as you normally do unless the physician has specifically instructed you otherwise.

How do I prepare for an In Lab Sleep Study?
On the day of the sleep study, avoid caffeine, alcohol, and napping after 12:00 noon on the day of the test. Take all your medications as you normally do unless the physician has specifically instructed you otherwise. Please arrived bathed with your hair clean and dry and please refrain from any use of hair sprays, gels, or lotions. Bring an overnight bag with any personal articles you may require (acceptable sleep attire such as pajamas, shorts, t-shirts, an extra pillow and a blanket if needed.)

Do I need to bring my CPAP machine to my CPAP titration study?
If you are currently on CPAP, please bring your hose and mask the night of your study. You do not need to bring your CPAP to your sleep study.

How do I prepare for a Home Sleep Apnea Test?
Please take all your medications as you normally do unless the physician has specifically instructed you otherwise. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and napping after 12:00 noon on the day of the test. For best results, it is recommended you remove any nail polish from the index finger that you will clip the pulse oximeter on during the test. Do not smoke while you are wearing any of the sleep monitoring equipment.

Is it complicated to self-administer a Home Sleep Apnea Test?
Everything you will need for the Home Sleep Apnea Test will be provided in a lightweight carrying case measuring approximately 12”X12”X3” for extremely easy transporting.

You will receive a written instruction sheet with your equipment. This will provide step-by-step instructions for you to follow. There are three basic steps:
  1. The monitor is attached to a belt which you will fasten around your chest
  2. Position the nasal cannula under your nose and secure
  3. Clip the pulse oximeter sensor on one of your index fingers and tape in place
In some cases you will need to press the start button; however, the unit can be pre-programmed to automatically start recording at a specified time. If you are having a two night test, please change the battery after the first night. You may view a video demonstration of the unit set up on our website in the Home Sleep Study section.
